Set up your first tracked prompts
How to choose the handful of buyer questions that decide a shortlist, and why ten deliberate prompts beat a thousand one-time checks.
A tracked prompt is a buyer question you run against answer engines on a schedule. The goal is not coverage; it is the small set of questions where a mention changes who the buyer considers.
Group them into four jobs: category questions, comparisons, alternatives, and pricing. A category prompt is 'best [category] software for [ICP]'. A comparison is '[competitor] vs [you]'. An alternatives prompt is '[competitor] alternatives'. A pricing prompt is 'how much does [category] cost'.
Keep the set small. Ten prompts rerun weekly tell you more than a thousand checked once, because they show direction. Include your brand and two or three competitors so the answer has something to choose between.
Do this
- Write 8-12 prompts across the four jobs.
- Attach a market and language to each.
- Add your tracked brand and 2-3 competitors.
- Run the first scan and treat it as a baseline, not a verdict.
