How to track your brand in ChatGPT

Tracking your brand in ChatGPT means asking the same buyer questions on a schedule and keeping what the model said: whether you were named, who it recommended instead, and which pages it cited. Here is the short version, and why ChatGPT alone is not enough.

The five steps

  1. Write down the buyer questions. The category, comparison, and pricing prompts that create a shortlist - "best [category] software for [ICP]", "[competitor] vs you", "how much does [category] cost".
  2. Run each prompt on a schedule. One check tells you nothing; the same prompt over time shows whether an answer is durable or a one-off.
  3. Keep the verbatim answer. The exact sentence, not a score. If ChatGPT named a competitor, record which one and where it appeared.
  4. Save the citations. The pages ChatGPT leaned on are the levers you can change - a listicle, a G2 page, a comparison post.
  5. Fix the source, then rerun. Change the page that shaped the answer and watch whether the answer follows.

Why ChatGPT alone is not enough

The same question gets different answers on different engines. A brand can be named by ChatGPT, missing from Gemini, and cited only on Perplexity. Tracking one engine gives you one slice of a buyer's research - and the one that is easiest to check by hand is also the one you already use, which means you learn nothing new.

Sonarvue runs each prompt across eight engines - ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, and Kimi - and keeps the answer and citations for each. All eight are included on the cheapest paid plan.

Tracking brand mentions in ChatGPT: FAQ

How do I track brand mentions in ChatGPT?

Save the buyer questions your customers ask, run them on a schedule, and keep the answer text, your position, and the cited sources. Sonarvue does this across ChatGPT and seven more engines; the trial runs the first scan and gives you the report.

Can companies monitor ChatGPT?

Yes. You can monitor what ChatGPT says about your brand by asking the same prompts repeatedly and recording the answers. This is different from seeing your private ChatGPT chats, which nobody can access.

Is there a free way to track brand mentions in ChatGPT?

The free AI visibility check runs a baseline scan and report with no card. Ongoing tracking starts at $29/mo, and that Starter plan still includes all eight engines.

How often should I check the answers?

Weekly is enough to catch movement and write it into a report; daily is useful when you are actively fixing a gap and want to confirm the answer changed. Sonarvue reruns the same prompt definition either way.

Run your first ChatGPT scan in minutes. Seven-day trial, 10 tracked prompts, no card required.
