Find the page the engine actually cited

When you are missing from an answer, the fix is usually the page the engine cited instead. Here is how to find it and decide whether to fix or earn it.

Most brands assume the answer reflects their own site. Often it reflects someone else's page entirely: a comparison listicle, a review site, a documentation page, or a community thread.

Find the citation list for the answer you are missing from, then classify each source as owned (yours), earned (third-party but changeable), or fixed (a platform page you cannot edit directly).

If the top cited source is a listicle that omits you, the fix is earning inclusion, not rewriting your homepage. If it is your own page and it is stale or unclear, update it. Either way, rerun the same prompt afterward to confirm the change.

Classify sources as owned, earned, or fixed.
Pick the highest-frequency source you can influence.
Fix or earn it, then rerun the prompt.
