Best AI SEO tools (2026)
An AI SEO tool can mean three different jobs: seeing what answer engines say about you, making your pages quotable, and shipping the technical and authority work. Here is which tools do which, and who each one is actually for.
We make one of the tools in this list. We have kept the page mostly about how to choose, named competitors at a level we can stand behind, and marked the gaps in our own product rather than hiding them. Prices move; check each vendor before you buy.
Three jobs hiding under “AI SEO tool”
Most comparison pages treat this category as one thing. It is not. The jobs are distinct and so are the tools.
- Measure the answer. Run saved buyer prompts across engines, record mentions, position, competitors and cited sources.
- Make the page quotable. Restructure the page so an answer engine can extract a clean claim, a definition or a comparison table from it.
- Ship the work. Fix crawling, ship content against the cited source, earn third-party mentions, then re-probe to prove the answer moved.
Buy the job you are missing. Teams usually start with the first, discover the gap is the third, and end up with both.

Sonarvue
Best for: End-to-end: measure the answer, then ship the fix · Price: Starter $99/mo, agent-led Growth $249/mo · Engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google
Tracks saved buyer prompts, stores the verbatim answer and the cited pages, then does the technical, content and authority work and re-probes to verify. Best when you want the fix shipped, not just recommended.
Where it falls short: Newer brand, smaller public footprint. Growth plan needs a verified domain before it can publish.
Semrush AI Toolkit
Best for: Teams already living inside Semrush · Price: Add-on to a Semrush plan · Engines: Several, via the Semrush suite
The pragmatic choice if your SEO reporting already runs on Semrush and you do not want another login. Brand visibility, competitor tracking and prompt research sit beside your existing keyword data.
Where it falls short: Depth of answer-level evidence varies by tier. You are buying convenience, not the deepest monitor.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Best for: SEO teams that trust Ahrefs data · Price: Included or added to Ahrefs plans · Engines: Multiple
Strong on citation and mention coverage anchored in a large link and SERP index. Good if you already pay for Ahrefs and want AI mentions next to organic data.
Where it falls short: Lighter on shipping the fix. Historically fixed prompt sets rather than open research.
Peec AI
Best for: Agencies running many client accounts · Price: From around €70/mo billed annually · Engines: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot
The category's most polished monitoring product, built around multi-client workflows with unlimited users. Recent Agent and Actions features move it toward acting on what it finds.
Where it falls short: Monitoring-first: the optimisation work still lands on your own team.
Otterly
Best for: Small teams that need a cheap starting point · Price: From about $29/mo · Engines: Five or more, depending on tier
The most accessible entry into AI visibility tracking, with straightforward setup and exportable data. Easy to justify as a first purchase.
Where it falls short: Lighter analytical depth and fewer workflow features as you scale past one brand.
Profound
Best for: Enterprise marketing organisations · Price: Enterprise pricing · Engines: Multiple, plus ads tooling
Deep analytics, SOC 2 credentials and an expanding platform that now includes paid placements in AI search. Built for teams with budget and a procurement process.
Where it falls short: Expensive entry point, and overkill before you have a repeatable process.
Scrunch
Best for: Brands that want monitoring plus content workflow · Price: Core around $250/mo · Engines: Nine
Structured monitoring with persona and funnel analysis plus an optimisation layer that turns findings into content tasks.
Where it falls short: Mid-market pricing, and the content output still needs editorial judgement.
SE Ranking
Best for: Teams already on SE Ranking · Price: Add-on to an SE Ranking plan · Engines: Six or more
A budget-friendly AI visibility add-on inside a full SEO suite, useful if you want one bill for classic and AI search.
Where it falls short: The AI features are an add-on, so depth trails dedicated monitors.
What AI actually recommends: we measured it
Every vendor on this page claims to track AI recommendations. Almost none publish whether an AI recommends them. So we ran the test on ourselves.
We took 20 real buyer prompts in this category (agency and in-house SEO queries such as “best AI SEO tools for a small agency” and “AI visibility audit tool for SEO consultants”), ran each once through ChatGPT in the US on 30 October 2026, and recorded which tools the answer named.
| Tool | Named in | Share of 20 prompts |
|---|---|---|
| Semrush | 14 of 20 | 70% |
| Otterly | 13 of 20 | 65% |
| Peec AI | 13 of 20 | 65% |
| Profound | 12 of 20 | 60% |
| Ahrefs | 10 of 20 | 50% |
| AthenaHQ | 5 of 20 | 25% |
| Scrunch | 5 of 20 | 25% |
| SE Ranking | 3 of 20 | 15% |
| Writesonic | 3 of 20 | 15% |
| HubSpot | 3 of 20 | 15% |
| LLM Pulse | 1 of 20 | 5% |
| Rankscale | 1 of 20 | 5% |
| LLMrefs | 1 of 20 | 5% |
| Sonarvue | 0 of 20 | 0% |
We are last on our own table, with zero mentions. We publish it because it is the most useful thing on this page: a buying signal that no vendor marketing page can give you. Semrush, Otterly and Peec AI are named in roughly two thirds of the answers; Sonarvue is named in none.
Two limits, stated plainly: this is one model, one answer per prompt, US English, so it is directional rather than a ranking. And being named is not the same as being recommended, which is why the position inside the answer matters as much as the mention.
What it means when you are choosing: if an engine does not name a tool at all, that tool is invisible to buyers who start their research inside an answer. Ask any vendor on this list for their own mention rate before you sign, and treat a refusal as an answer.
How to choose in one afternoon
- Write the ten questions your buyers ask before they know your name.
- Run them in one engine, in one country, and record whether you appear at all. If you appear in none, buy measurement with a manual override, not an enterprise contract.
- Read the sources the engine cites in the answers you lose. That list is your work plan.
- Check which tool records the verbatim answer and the cited pages. A score you cannot trace back to the text is not evidence.
- Decide whether you are buying measurement or execution. Most teams need both, and no single product priced under $100 does both well.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI SEO tool?
It depends on which of the three jobs you are missing. For measurement, a dedicated AI visibility monitor with fixed prompts and stored evidence. For execution, a tool that ships the technical, content and authority fixes. Sonarvue is built for the second and includes the first.
Are AI SEO tools the same as AI visibility tools?
No. AI visibility tools measure whether answer engines mention and cite you. AI SEO tools are the broader set, including content optimisation, schema, crawlability and authority work. Many products sell only the measurement half.
Can I do AI SEO without a tool?
You can start. Ten prompts, a spreadsheet, and a weekly check will show you whether you appear at all. Tools earn their price when you need the same prompts run on a schedule, competitor comparison and proof that a change worked.
How much should an AI SEO tool cost?
Most teams land between $50 and $500 a month. Price per tracked prompt and per engine rather than per seat, and check whether extra brands or clients cost more.
Do AI SEO tools work for agencies?
The good ones do, if they isolate each client’s prompts and allow reporting under your brand. Ask about project isolation, approval trails and whether client work can be exported before you sign.
